Frequently Asked Questions

What league does Nisky Travel play in?

All teams play in the Hudson Mohawk District 7 Travel Softball League.

What is the schedule for travel softball?

Tryouts for travel softball are late July or early August each year, and teams are formed for 8U, 10U, 12U, 14U and 16U.

Fall Ball includes weekend games in September and October, plus team practices. Practices, full schedules and tournament play will be determined on a team-by-team basis.

Please note: All travel softball athletes are required to play in the Niskayuna Rec softball season (K-8th grade) or on their school's modified, JV or varsity teams, which run from April through mid-June.

The Hudson Mohawk season runs from early June through mid-late July. Most teams will have two weeknight games per week, plus practices as determined by your coach.

How far do the teams travel?

Generally, the team stays within the greater Capital District area, with the farthest games within an hour of Niskayuna. Field locations and directions to all Travel Team fields can be found on the Hudson Mohawk website.

What equipment is required?

Each player is required to provide their own glove, fielding mask, cleats (metal acceptable for players 14U and up only) and batting helmet. The team can provide bats, however, most players prefer to supply their own as bat length and weight can impact play performance.

Other equipment  to consider includes batting gloves, sliding shorts and an equipment bag.

Players are also required to wear a team uniform, which includes a jersey, softball pants, belt and socks. Jerseys are included in the registration fee.
